Hi Everyone! It’s me, Holly! I’m not too sure what’s going on around here, but my mommies have been quite busy this past week. They told me that I am having another operation on Friday to get rid of this thing called “cancer.” I’m not too sure what that is, but it doesn’t sound too good. Grandpaw built these big ramps to put outside over the steps and the mommies ordered new rugs to cover the slippery hardwood floors. They also gave me a new shirt and started rooting around for others for me. I don’t know why I have to get so dressed up all of the time, but I guess they have a reason. Mommies explained to me that I have to have my front left leg amputated to get rid of this cancer stuff. I’m not too sure what all of that means, but if it gets rid of this cancer stuff I think that’s a good thing, right? I’ll keep you posted on how things go with my surgery. Can you tell me about your surgeries?
Hi Holly! We are all pulling for you here in the Tripawd community! Rusty is our tripawd cat. He underwent surgery in September to remove his rear left leg due to HSA cancer. We were lucky that the cancer seems to have been contained to that area.
Check out the Forums. There are wonderful people there who can talk to the specifics of canine surgery. there is also a hotline for your mommies.
They can also start their own thread for you on the forums. We tend to see those and answer them a little faster than the blogs. During this time, we support each other as much as we and as fast as we can since we know how difficult this can be for everyone.
Hugs and Sandpaper kisses from Rusty and his hoomins Gina and Nick
Hi Rusty, Gina and Nick! I’m so happy to meet you and to hear that your surgery went well and that you are cancer free! Thank you for providing the hints for my mommies. I’m going to go tell them now to post for me in the Forums. Sending wet sloppy kisses and hugs to you and your parents.
Love,
Holly
hi
all went well with our dog’s hind leg amputation. There was no evidence of spread at that time. She had 6 rounds chemo- carboplatin. She thrived for 11 months. We used a sling for icy winters to support her outdoors. She did well. Then gradually took sling away in spring. Added skid free rugs in house. Built a ramp off deck. Short walks, but many to keep Ms. Border Collie busy. No phantom pain post surgery but we did have her on Gabapentin for it. So maybe that’s why?? Cancer came back in Nov. She did have to put her down. wide spread of cancer. Now there is that vaccine. Make sure your dog gets it post chemo. Good luck.
Hi Pallu,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your sweet girl. She was obviously well loved and cared for. I appreciate you sharing your story and I will tell my mommies to look into the vaccine you mentioned for me. Sending love and hugs!
